Hokuto

no Ken Ken has made history in the world manga and anime, but the same can not be said for the video games. Except for Hokuto no Ken: Seiki Matsukyu Seishi Densetsu PlayStation and Last Battle on Megadrive, translations into pixels have often been plagued by a ridiculous and repetitive gameplay unacceptable, as the fighting in numerori meetings for Super Nintendo. Fortunately, fans can now count on the last effort of Omega Force, which clinched the game in the style of Dynasty Warriors to the first series of manga by Tetsuo Hara and Buronson. The gameplay is focused therefore on large-scale combat against dozens of opponents at once, but try to be a bit 'more reasoned than the frenzy of the other titles.

Although you are often surrounded, was forced to confront an adversary at a time like a scrolling beat em up, using a discrete system two-key combo that allows you to recreate the moves seen in the main cartoon. Unfortunately, the fights are afflicted with some woodiness of controls that prevent the extensive customization, for example, in view of Bayonetta. Lanci, parades, sockets, punches and flying kicks gusts are all present an appeal, but struggling to restore the right feeling of majesty, even complicit in the opposition a bit 'too static. On the contrary, the special moves are spectacular and satisfying for all fans, complete with a still image and caption for the killing blow. As usual, turn on a charging energy bar, and can be unlocked from the map of Meridiani, a screen where you spend the experience points accumulated.

The main mode recounts the events of the manga - not too smooth with a narrative to tell the truth - until the fight between Kenshiro and Raul, but also offers the opportunity to experience some junctures in the shoes of other characters including Toki, Rei, Shin, and Mamiya. The combat system varies depending on the category: the warriors of principally exploit Hokuto melee combat, those of Nanto are perfect for mass riots and "Special" (as Mamiya) delight in striking distance. The scenarios are themed with the setting of post-atomic number but suffer from excessive repetition, both in structure, both in terms of graphics. There is in fact extremely linear levels that offer little opportunity for exploration, full of invisible walls, and where interactive elements are very small bone. To spice up a little 'action but there are various secondary targets - including the protection of civilians or the destruction of the hostile troops within a time limit - which can obtain the bonus in battle and a better assessment at the end of the chapter.

main proceeding in the adventure you have access to new episodes of Dream Mode, in which events are narrated in parallel when viewed from the eyes of secondary characters. In these missions, the style of play back to be that of a true Dynasty Warriors, where the goal is the conquest of enemy positions arranged on the map. On the one hand intriguing because of the unusual events but on the other extremely repetitive, these missions do not offer much of a girlfriend in terms of gameplay - the presence of allied generals in the field is totally unnecessary - but are still considered to be of interest to every lover numerous cameos.

From a technical standpoint polygonal models are well made, explosions and bloody cut scenes in real time very accurately reconstruct some key passages from the animated series. Disappoint but the music - mostly made up of noisy metal songs that have nothing to do with the original soundtrack - some even dubbing (available in English and Japanese), which does not properly emphasize the screams of the combatants. Subtitles in Italian, finally, they took little account of the localization of the anime and manga, opting instead for the American adaptation of some names.

Ken's Rage is probably the pinnacle of a gaming franchise that has never satisfied the way down and this time the assessment is twofold. Strikes in the heart of the references to the series that are sure to excite fans, but it is so repetitive and sometimes archaic in game mechanics to discourage anyone else.

Raffaele Cinquegrana

Pros: good feeling with the series, parallel stories, several characters to control, exciting for the fans
Replay Value: discreet. Dream mode offers new scenarios to discover unknown details of the saga
Cons: system Fighting woody; Dream repetitive mode; music too confusing
In Summary: Fist of The North Star: Ken's Rage is one of the best titles on warrior Hokuto and therefore a godsend for fans. Going beyond the passion, though, the gameplay is not sophisticated enough to win more fans
